Bayern Munich’s women’s team has drawn newly promoted Bundesliga side Hamburger SV in the DFB-Pokal Frauen.
The Frauen made it to the quarterfinals by beating Borussia Dortmund and FC Ingolstadt in their
previous games. Now, they face their first Bundesliga side in the competition.
HSV are currently second from bottom in the league with a game in hand. However, they are not to be taken lightly by any means. They actually opened their Bundesliga campaign by drawing with Wolfsburg, one of the strongest teams in the league. What’s more, they defeated Bayer Leverkusen on penalties to reach the Pokal quarterfinals, and they even made it all the way to the semifinals last season.
Bayern, meanwhile, face Hamburg in their next Bundesliga game. However, since said game is in Munich, and the Pokal game is in Hamburg, it may not be too accurate a barometer for the latter.
Bayern have only played Hamburg once in the Pokal, way back in the 2011/12 season semifinals. Bayern won 5-2, and ended up winning the title.
The game will be played on either the 11th or 12th of March.
