Week 10 is in the books in the NFL. After multiple touchdowns last week, we get one this week. We had some genuinely brutal games going back to Thursday – I can’t decide if Denver-Las Vegas or Philadelphia-Green
Bay was the worst game of the year so far. Let’s go!
Tight Ends
The headliner here is George Kittle. Kittle snared 9 receptions for 84 yards, including a tight rope touchdown late. Unfortunately the touchdown was in garbage time, as the Niners fell at home to the Los Angeles Rams, 42-26.
Look at this work on the sideline from Kittle. What a damn play.
In five games this year, Kittle is at 21 catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns.
Real quick shout out to Alaric Jackson. He’s having a really solid season with the Rams at left tackle. The Rams generally look great – young, fast, athletic, great skill players, and Matthew Stafford is in his bag. They’re 7-2 with a huge game for NFC West supremacy looming with Seattle next Sunday (Seattle’s also at 7-2.)
Sam LaPorta had another strong game with the Lions, hauling in 5 passes for 53 yards as the Lions had a nice get right game with Washington, winning 44-22. Dan Campbell was back in charge of play-calling duties for the Lions and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Commanders? They STINK.
Quick shoutout for Jack Campbell here as well – another 9 tackles and a quarterback hit for the linebacker. His 9 tackles led the team again.
LaPorta now sits at 40 receptions on the season for 489 yards and three touchdowns. He’s 5th in yardage among tight ends. Meanwhile, Campbell’s at 82 tackles. His 82 tackles lead the Lions and has him 9th in the NFL overall.
It was a quiet day for T.J. Hockenson, as he had 2 receptions for 8 yards as the Vikings fell to the Ravens, 27-19. Hockenson is now at 31 receptions for 241 yards and two scores on the season for the 4-5 Vikings.
Tory Taylor
After having roughly 10,000 punts his first 1 1/2 seasons in Chicago, things have tapered off for our Aussie punter. Taylor had 3 punts for 135 yards in Chicago’s come-from-behind 24-20 win over the New York Giants. The win moved Chicago to a somewhat shocking 6-3 on the season and into a first-place tie with Detroit in the NFC Central.
On the other sideline, Dane Belton picked up 3 tackles for the Giants, who fell to 2-8 and fired Brian Daboll yesterday.
Potpourri
The game of the day was probably New England at Tampa, where the Patriots picked up an eighth win on the year with a 28-23 win. Anthony Nelson logged 6 tackles, while Kaevon Merriweather had 1. The loss drops Tampa to 6-3, while New England is now at 8-2. Gee – you hire an actual coach with a decent roster and you immediately go 8-2. Huh. Look at that.
Checking in on running backs quick – Tyler Goodson had 1 carry for 4 yards in Indy’s 31-25 overtime win over Atlanta in Berlin. If you are a Jonathan Taylor owner in fantasy, like me, congrats! That means there won’t be a ton of action coming for Goodson given Taylor is a damn lightning bolt right now. Kaleb Johnson finished Pittsburgh’s catastrophic 25-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with 2 carries for 3 yards. Pittsburgh had clear command of the AFC North four weeks ago. They’re now 5-4 while the Ravens are just a game back after their horrendous 1-5 start.
Riley Moss had 5 tackles as the Broncos beat the Raiders in an absolutely abhorrent game last Thursday night, winning 10-7 in Denver to also move to 8-2. The Broncos also have a huge game Sunday, hosting the 5-4 Chiefs. A win would effectively end Kansas City’s chokehold on the AFC West while keeping the Broncos a game ahead of the Chargers.
The other bad game this week was Eagles-Packers. Cooper DeJean also picked up 5 tackles as the Eagles improved to 7-2. We could probably never speak of those two games again.
