Diego Simeone made four changes to his Atlético de Madrid side as the Colchoneros traveled up to Pamplona to face Osasuna in the final midweek round of the 2025/26 season in LaLiga.
With LaLiga’s title clinched and Atlético mathematically qualified for the UEFA Champions League again next season, Simeone named a strong side anyway amid eight first-team absences for Atleti’s penultimate away day of the campaign. He looked on as Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sørloth delivered a 2-1 victory for the beleaguered
visitors, who provisionally moved within three points of Villarreal for third place in LaLiga.
Here are Into the Calderón’s ratings for this one.
Musso Saw plenty of action in front of his goal over the first 45 minutes before he nearly repeated his mistake from the Copa del Rey final, taking out Ante Budimir with an inadvertent fist to the head as he tried to punch clear Rubén García’s cross. Referee José Luis Guzman Mansilla initially gave a penalty and a yellow card to Musso, but he overturned both decisions upon review. Made a flying save on an unmarked Budimir after 65 minutes and saved smartly from Alejandro Catena roughly 20 minutes later; Kike Barja finally beat him in the 91st minute. 7
Llorente An eventful night at El Sadar for Marcos. Started the match at right-back but moved into midfield in the attacking phase after Rodri Mendoza picked up an injury. Never shirked his defensive duties, making a vital intervention on Budimir when the Croatian marksman could have buried an equalizer before halftime. Booked for impolitely reminding Guzman Mansilla to pay attention, then supplied Sørloth with a cross that the Norwegian turned in for 2-0 before he was sent off for a foul on Budimir. 6
Pubill Nearly scored his first goal for the club with a driving run and a low shot that Aitor Fernández got down to slap away. Tussled with Budimir at the end of the half as the Osasuna forward continued his hunt for a goal, Guzman Mansilla later booked him for little apparent reason as he jostled with Barja. In six months, he has become a complete defender more than worthy of his inclusion in Spain’s pre-list for the World Cup. 7
Hancko Strong box defending throughout the first half, when he made four of his eight clearances. Late to react on Budimir’s point-blank chance 25 minutes from time. Could not find much of a rhythm passing the ball but looked fairly sturdy as Atlético bunkered in their own half at the end. 6
Ruggeri Terrible at the start, with wayward passes and unfocused defending. His standout crossing was hardly that and Valentin Rosier gave him a torrid time out of possession. 3.5
Koke Gifted Budimir a 1v1 chance with an awful back pass that went directly to the Osasuna poacher, who fortunately sent his effort over the bar. Tried to calm things down with his passing and veteran savvy, ended up just about keeping things together. 5
Mendoza Tried to chip Aitor from Antoine Griezmann’s pass but Osasuna’s backup goalkeeper was up to the task. Went down with a suspected muscle injury after 16 minutes, adding another name to an already-bulging Atleti injury list. N/A
Almada A few nice touches but largely anonymous in the first half as a right midfielder. Removed at halftime. 3
Vargas Nominally the left midfielder, a player who can drive with the ball, pass it accurately, win it back and take pressure off his team when it is down a man. He won eight of 10 ground duels and continues to grow in confidence. 7
Lookman Stepped up for a 15th-minute penalty and confidently sent it into the bottom left corner to open the scoring. Lookman’s defensive work really has improved in recent months; he won three of four ground duels in the first half. His footwork allows him to navigate out of tight spaces and start counterattacking moves; in a post-Griezmann future, he’s going to be looked at as one of the solutions. Left incredulous as Lucas Torró got away with pulling his hair early in the second half, an infraction which should have produced a red card. 7.5
Griezmann Left red-faced as he thought Javi Galán got away with a handball from his 10th-minute shot but relieved when VAR advised the referee Guzmán to give a penalty — which the club’s all-time top scorer generously allowed Ademola Lookman to take. Floated all over the pitch in attack and produced a committed performance defensively, but he wasn’t very sharp on the night. 6.5
Le Normand Replaced Rodri Mendoza after only 18 minutes. Slotted in next to Dávid Hancko while Marc Pubill shifted to right-back. Poor positionally on the Budimir penalty sequence as he pushed the forward into Juan Musso; a VAR review spared his blushes. Second half wasn’t much better as Pubill more than once had to wipe up the Spain international’s messes, later added to Guzman Mansilla’s book amid the referee’s disastrous personal showing. 4
Sørloth Replaced Thiago Almada to begin the second half. Prompted a formation change to a 5-4-1 shape where Lookman, Griezmann and Koke could use him as a fulcrum. Scored a simple header in the 71st minute after Marcos Llorente chased down Pubill’s pass and crossed it to the big man for his 13th league goal. Sørloth has hit 20 goals across all competitions for the second time in as many seasons here. 7.5
Lenglet Replaced Lookman in the 82nd minute to shore up the defense. Actively harmed the team’s chances to win. Out of position on Barja’s consolation goal and had his arm around Budimir’s neck as he grappled with the forward in the box in stoppage time; Osasuna were understandably outraged that the incident did not warrant a VAR review. —
