Hello again! It’s me.
, my streak of winless Saturdays continues. In an effort to circumvent the universe — that always goes well — I’m taking up the mantle for the Sunday afternoon game, where I hope to be able to cover a series win against the plucky Diamondbacks. With a win today, Arizona would pull even to 75-75. After last night’s events, they sit
two games back of the plummeting New York Mets for the final Wild Card, although a betting person would wager that if any team were to overtake New York, it would be the San Francisco Giants.
The Diamondbacks are starting 30-year-old Nabil Crismatt, who is opening just his sixth major-league game ever. He’s racked up over 110 relief appearances for the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers. This is the National League exclusive’s second stint with Arizona. He pitched two perfect innings against the Twins in 2022, with four strikeouts across six batters.
Meanwhile, Bailey Ober is doing his best to regain form after his July stint on the IL. Since returning on August 2nd, Bailey has made seven starts, during which the team has gone 2-5. In those games, Ober has allowed eight homers as part of 19 total earned runs on 37 hits in 37.1 innings, with a 31/6 K/BB ratio. It’s a bit too late in the game for Bailey to save what will statistically be his worst season in the bigs; still, it would be nice to see him turn in a couple of vintage performances before this is said and done.
Today’s lineup is a bit of an off-day for users on Sporcle Watch. If you squint your eyes, Mickey Gasper’s appearance behind the dish and Edouard Julien’s residence in the DH spot may be tough to remember by season’s end, but you’ll probably have their names down for other reasons already.
