Borussia Dortmund suffered a heavy defeat in the Champions League this evening as Manchester City scored four brilliant goals to secure a 4-1 victory. This loss marks BVB’s first European defeat of the season.
Dortmund can count themselves a little unlucky to concede four, but BVB found themselves on the wrong side of a City side starting to find their rhythm and some excellent strikes from Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Rayan Cherki.
It was not a flattering scoreline, but Dortmund still have a good shot at automatic qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League. BVB now have to dust themselves off and prepare for Hamburger SV at the weekend.
Here are today’s nominations for Man of the Match in their 4-1 loss to Manchester City.
Nico Schlotterbeck
I don’t think Schlotterbeck can be blamed for much of what happened tonight, and he showed his quality on both sides of the ball at various points throughout the night.
Gregor Kobel
Kobel conceded four tonight, but much like Schlotterbeck, I don’t think he could be blamed for any of the goals. Kobel made several vital stops in the first half, and things could have got pretty ugly without him between the sticks.
Carney Chukwuemeka
I was hesitant to nominate Chukwuemeka because he wasn’t on the pitch for long, but his half hour on the pitch coincided with Dortmund’s best stretch tonight, and I thought Chukwuemeka had a big hand in that.
Waldemar Anton
Well, he got the goal, and who else got one tonight?
