Napoli kept their unbeaten record at home since losing to Lazio in December 2024 intact with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Inter Milan to seal Serie A top spot.
A draw would have been the best result for
AC Milan supporters, but right now, the Partenopei (18) lead the league leaders spot by a point with the Rossoneri in second (17). Neighbourhood rivals Inter just could not handle the pressure inflicted upon them by the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona crowd and Napoli, as they fell apart despite scoring through a Hakan Calhanoglu penalty.
Milan manager Max Allegri quelled talks of a potential title charge during various press conferences this season, but optimism was growing until his side were held to a 2-2 draw by Pisa. With top spot gone, Milan fans hope to have their team get themselves on the front foot in every upcoming clash and regain lost ground.
This matchday did not go according to plan for Milan as they could be further overtaken by Roma, who play on Sunday against Sassuolo. The Giallorossi are currently on 15 points, two points short of Milan, but a victory would see the capital side go a point clear and level on points with Napoli.
This was coming and it is better that Allegri has to cope only with the domestic pressure this season, and teams like Napoli and Inter will have to undergo European challenges soon. That takes a toll on teams, leading them to fall mid-season or late.
As of now, Milan stay right in the mix of things for a Scudetto charge. Rafael Leao has been scoring. Luka Modric is pulling the strings, and Allegri needs to sort out a few things, which have kept his team devoid of the connection between attack and midfield.
Il Diablo play Atalanta next at Bergamo. A strong showing with maximum points from the match would prove to be crucial in the race and keep the stress on league opponents.
