Like the No. 6 Texas Longhorns, the No. 11 Oregon Ducks went undefeated in their regional to set up a three-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field next weekend with a College World Series berth on the line.
Oregon notched a 4-1 win over Oregon State in the Eugene Regional on Sunday, rallying from a 1-0 deficit in the second by tying the game with an RBI single in the third and taking control with a three-run seventh on one hit as the bullpen for the Beavers lost the strike zone, issuing four walks,
including two with the bases loaded.
Four Oregon pitchers worked around seven total hits, stranding eight base runners while allowing the single run on an RBI single in the second as Oregon State went 1-for-12 (.083) with runners on base and 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position.
Because of the command issues by the Beavers in the seventh, the Ducks weren’t forced to come up with many clutch hits, either, but Oregon did come up with a clutch pitching performance on Saturday in a 4-0 win over Washington State when All-Big Ten second-team selection Will Sanford moved to 9-2 on the season by striking out a career-high 14 batters over 6.1 scoreless innings during which the 6’0, 202-pounder only allowed one hit.
Oregon opened its regional on Friday with a 14-2 win over Yale.
It’s the third time in the last four years the Ducks have advanced to a super regional under seventh-year head coach Mark Wasikowski, including four straight 40-win seasons, but Oregon is still looking for its big breakthrough — the program has only reached the College World Series once, in 1954, setting up a huge Austin Super Regional for the Ducks as the Horns try to return to Omaha for the first time since 2022.
