Michael Reschke believes Markus Krösche should not feel too bad about losing Nathaniel Brown to Bayern Munich.
When asked how difficult it was for Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director to let Brown leave, Reschke offered a reminder of the financial reality facing almost every Bundesliga club outside of Bayern Munich.
“In the league, only Bayern Munich can afford to keep players even when exceptional alternatives to selling them arise. All other teams have to sell sooner or later. For Markus and Eintracht
Frankfurt, the Brown story was a great success. They were able to enjoy a fantastic player for a year and then transfer him on for a significant profit,” Reschke told Abendzeitung.
Brown’s move is a perfect example of the model that has made Frankfurt one of Germany’s most successful clubs in developing and selling talent. The left-back arrived from Nürnberg, established himself as an important player, and then earned a major transfer to Bayern Munich.
Reports put the transfer fee at around €55 million, making it a substantial financial win for Frankfurt.
For Reschke, the bigger point is that clubs like Frankfurt cannot operate like Bayern Munich. When an elite club comes calling and presents a life-changing opportunity for both player and club, eventually the decision to sell becomes difficult to avoid.
From Frankfurt’s perspective, Brown’s development into a Bayern Munich player represents a successful piece of business.
