LIVERPOOL VS. BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
| Sunday, October 25th |
Premier League | Anfield
2:00PM BST/10:00AM EST
Liverpool are coming off of three good results in the Champions League and Premier League as they welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Anfield. The Reds are still looking to earn their first victory and three points at home after two draws and a loss.
It will be a tough one, against a Brighton side that have gotten off to a great start and currently sit in third place on the table. They’ve already earned clean sheets in their last
five games, including a 3-0 victory over Arsenal. They’ve also scored 23 goals in their first seven league games.
Alexander Isak has already scored five goals in the first six games, so the team will rely on him to continue his good form and create chances to beat Brighton’s currently high-flying defense.
However, the big news isn’t about the teams or any specific players, but the weather. Storm Boelo could bring heavy wind, rain, and even flooding to Merseyside before Sunday’s match. While it has not been postponed yet, it’s a possibility as of right now. Maybe that heavy wind could aim itself towards Brighton’s goal and help out a little if it does go on.
Predicted Liverpool Lineup (4-2-3-1)
Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Nyoni, Mac Allister; Barcola, Wirtz, Ngumoha; Isak
Andoni Iraola continues to navigate serious early season injury concerns. This week, he’ll be without Jeremie Frimpong, Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, Victor Muňoz, and poor Giovanni Leoni. That’s quite the annoying list considering it’s not even Halloween. Good news is that Bradley Barcola should be available.
For Hürzeler and Brighton, they’ll be without Evan Ferguson, Stefanos Tzimas, Kaoru Mitoma, Femi Azeez, and Zadok Yohanna. Jason Steele, Pascal Struijk, Yankuba Minteh, and Mats Wieffer are doubts.
The Managers Have Their Say
Andoni Iraola: “They are doing incredibly well. They deserve all the praise they are getting and I think there is little doubt that it is a team that is very well coached. Very good in every phase of the game; without the ball they are one of the best teams and also with the ball they have good quality. We need to be at our very best because right now they have confidence – but I also see my team in a good place.”
Fabian Hürzeler: “We know what we can expect from Liverpool. Very intense pressing so a very intense game. Anfield is always a very special environment and atmosphere. We have to be prepared mentally and physically, but we seem to be in a good place.”
