After the season Harry Kane’s had with both Bayern Munich and England, he is, without question, one of the odds-on favorites to win this year’s Ballon d’Or. In the domestic double season for the German Rekordmeister, the England skipper tallied 61 goals and 7 assists from a total of 51 appearances across all competitions before registering 6 goals and 1 assist for the Three Lions in their run to a third place finish at the World Cup.
Per Polymarket, Kane is currently the odds-on favorite to be given
the honor in October in London, with 61% of the probability, ahead of the likes of Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Kylian Mbappé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lionel Messi, and Ousmane Dembélé, all of whom had strong World Cup’s bar Kvaratskhelia since Georgia did not qualify. While Polymarket odds are predominantly based on user trading patterns, the current odds paint a picture of what people are feeling. France Football certainly might not reflect the feeling of the general populous on the matter, but Kane, without a trace of doubt, has to realistically be in the conversation this time around.
Speaking on his Ballon d’Or chances at Bayern’s media day at the FC Bayern campus, Kane did not want to delve too much into the small matter of him potentially winning the award. Rather, he took the time to say how proud he was of this past season and made mention of the time left before the winner is announced in London.
“I’m very proud of the season I played. The Ballon d’Or is, from an individual point of view, the biggest award you can get. The Ballon d’Or isn’t in my hands. I’ve done what I could in terms of performing. Of course, it would be fantastic if it happens. But ultimately, there’s still 2-3 months until a decision is made. I’m extremely proud of what I’ve achieved with this team and also with the national team. For me, it’s now about concentrating on this season. We have big ambitions and big goals,” Bayern’s number 9 explained (via @iMiaSanMia).
As Kane alluded to, the aim for Vincent Kompany and Bayern this season is to take it one step further than they did last season. They won the domestic double, but fell just short in the Champions League in the semifinals to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain — they want to change that this season. The Ligue1 giants have gone from strength to strength over the past two seasons, but Bayern have shown they can give them a run for their money, which is exactly what this season’s hope is.
