After an impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea
in the Champions League, Bayern Munich capped off the week with a 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim. Vincent Kompany’s squad rotation made the Bundesliga match a little difficult, but Harry “Hat trick” Kane delivered another clutch performance. Bayern’s 18 goals through four Bundesliga matches is an all-time record that Kompany’s squad is poised to used as a building block.
In the last 31 competitive matches against Bremen, Bayern have only been defeated once, although that 1-0 loss occurred at the Allianz Arena merely 20 months ago.
Bremen have won the Bundesliga four times (1965, 1988, 1993, 2004) but have also failed to finish higher than eighth place since 2009/10.
Team News
Here is the predicted lineup, courtesy of BFW:

After a six-day break between matches, Vincent Kompany will have the luxury of starting his best XI against Bremen. Aleksandar Pavlović or Leon Goretzka are interchangeable at the number eight pivot position but everything else looks predictable. Jonathan Tah might start at center-back instead of Kim Min-jae if Kim’s fitness isn’t at one hundred percent.
Kompany will have limited options off the bench. Lennart Karl looked nervous in his first Bundesliga start over the weekend but should still be the first attacking substitution if the game is in hand. Tom Bischof’s versatility has made him the primary option as the fifth substitution, depending on who needs to sit out the last 10-15 minutes. Raphaël Guerreiro will be on the bench as an emergency choice. Nicolas Jackson will continue to see reserve moments until he can display his grasp of the offense.
From an injury standpoint, Bayern will be without the services of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Itō, Josip Stanišić and Jonas Urbig.
In the first year under Horst Steffen’s management, Bremen exclusively runs a 4-2-3-1 formation. Bremen’s squad has managed four points in four Bundesliga matches with a brutally difficult schedule. Romano Schmid and Justin Njinmah have both scored two goals. Look out for Bayer Leverkusen loanee Victor Boniface to break into the starting lineup as an attacking threat.
Bayern Munich will host Werder Bremen in a Bundesliga match that — on paper — looks a little lopsided.
Okay, a lot lopsided.
The Bavarians are scorching hot and Werder Bremen has a slew of injuries, which makes for what could be a very tough challenge against a Bayern Munich team than can just wear down the opposition.
Let’s get into it — this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show:
- What to watch for with Werder Bremen. Die Werderaner are banged up, but does still have some talent. Will it be enough to shock Bayern Munich? We doubt it.
