On Thursday, the WNBPA players union authorized its Executive Committee to call a strike “when necessary.” You can read the statement below which ESPN’s Alexa Philippou wrote below.
Let me state the biggest part right now: the WNBA players have NOT gone on strike yet and this is NOT imminent just yet. They just have given the green light to allow the Executive Committee to make that call. If you want to know whether WNBA players are willing to go on strike or not, see this below.
Now that the players are closer to going on strike, whether we want to admit it or not, the ball is now in the owners’ court. Perhaps they could dare the players to strike by locking them out. But so far, the owners have allowed players to get larger salaries and revenue sharing, among other things.
