Happy Sunday Husky fans. Today I wanted to take a look at who ended up heading to Montlake to check out the Huskies first game of the season. I saw quite a few players before the game in the Zone, and most of them were enjoying their time and interacting with fans.
Before the game I saw 2 commits in the 2026 class: 4 star defensive lineman Derek Colman-Brusa from Kennedy Catholic HS, WA and 4 star safety Gavin Day from Faith Lutheran HS, NV. DCB is a massive player who should be an impact player for the Huskies
sooner rather than later. With freshman defensive lineman Devin Hyde showing he can contribute yesterday I expect DCB to be able to play next year and have a role on the team (he looks all of his listed 6’5” and 267 frame that is listed on 247sports). Day is another player who should see time early next year with the Huskies set to lose Makell Esteen and CJ Christian from the safety room (Day is listed at 6’3” and around 200 pounds).
Also on campus for the game were 4 star wide receiver Mason James from Norman North HS, OK, 3 star wide receiver Blaise LaVista from Lincoln-Way East, and local 3 star offensive lineman Ah Deong Yang from Puyallup HS, WA, 3 star running back Ansu Sanoe from Lakeridge HS, OR, and 3 star cornerback Elijah Durr from Mt Tahoma HS, WA. Husky fans should be excited about James coming in, and he will bring an elusive/game breaking element to the offense and I would expect to see him play next year. LaVista was on campus for his official visit as the lone official visitor for the game and he was a great pickup for the Huskies to be able to land him before his stock really blew up.
There was also a pretty large contingent of recruits from the 2027 class, and a couple of guys who are of note were:
4 star quarterback Sione Kaho from Lincoln HS, WA was on campus to check out the Huskies. Kaho is one of the top QB’s in the country in the 2027 class and the Huskies are doing very well for him (they would love to add him sooner rather than later to the 2027 commit list, but it may be a few months before we see movement from him). Listed at 6’2” and around 205 pounds he is a bigger QB than Husky fans have seen the Huskies bring in over the last couple of cycles. The Huskies are battling Oregon, BYU, and Stanford for his commitment.
3 star offensive lineman Gecova Doyal from Puyallup HS, WA was another local top target on campus from the 2027 class. Doyal, who already holds offers from UW, Miami, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, is one of the top lineman on the west coast in the 2027 class. The Huskies would also love to add Doyal to their 2027 class, but he will likely take several trips and let the recruiting process play out before he makes his decision. Doyal is listed at 6’3” and around 270 pounds.
4 star defensive lineman Tevita Nonu from O’Dea HS, WA was the top in-state 2027 prospect on campus for the game yesterday. Nonu, who is rated as the 16th best defensive lineman in the country, is a top target for the Huskies who could really use a few cycles of top tier defensive lineman to help bolster the play along the defensive line. Listed at 6’4” and around 270 pounds, Nonu already holds offers from UW, Notre Dame, Penn State, and ASU.
3 star offensive lineman Reis Russell from Valor Christian HS, CO made his way up to campus to check out the Husky program. The Huskies are doing very well in the recruitment of Russell so far and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them add a commitment from him over the coming months. Russell, who is rated as the 35th best interior offensive lineman in the country by 247sports, holds offers from UW, LSU, Miami, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
That is all for today and next weekend I will start to take a look at some of the senior season stats that Husky commits and targets have started to put up in the 2025 class. As always follow me @asieverkropp.
