Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren underwent a biological treatment on Friday to address a small patellar tendon tear in his right knee and will be sidelined for the next 8-to-10 weeks, the Thunder organization announced in a press release.
Chet Holmgren experienced mild discomfort in his right knee on October 25. After a series of consultations with specialists, the determination was to perform a biological treatment today to address a small patellar tendon tear.
The treatment was successful
and Holmgren is expected to make a full recovery and return to play in 8-to-10 weeks.
Holmgren, 24, carries career averages of 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.2 blocks per game as one of the Thunder’s most vital players on both ends of the floor.
The 7-foot-1 center’s extended absence is just the latest major blow to an OKC roster that has been devastated by injuries to start the season. Following OKC’s 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, Thunder star Jalen Williams was diagnosed with a dislocated left ankle and fractured fibula, while key starter Cason Wallace was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Both players underwent surgery this week and could miss the entire 2026-27 campaign. OKC guard Alex Caruso has also been ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Houston Rockets with a right ankle sprain, marking his second consecutive scratch due to the issue.
While OKC is dealing with the worst of it, injury woes have been hitting star players and teams all around the league to start the NBA season, causing our own Dave Deckard to write an injury-focused mailbag response on Wednesday. If things continue like this, he may need to write another one soon.
