Barcelona have been told that Lamine Yamal’s current injury is likely to keep him out for around a month and warned he must recover completely before returning to action to avoid chronic problems in the
future.
Yamal has been struggling with a pubic injury since returning from the last international call-up with Spain. Barcelona have confirmed he’s definitely out for “2-3 weeks” but Hansi Flick has admitted it may be longer
.Dr Jordi Ardèvol, who has previously worked at Barcelona, has offered some professional insight into Yamal’s problem and says care needs to be taken.
“The priority is rest and physiotherapy. If you stop in time, in three or four weeks you can be there, it doesn’t heal in a week. It must be completely cured,” he told Sport.
“Stopping now is the best way to avoid chronic problems in the future. The usual thing for an adolescent who stops on time is three or four weeks. Less than a month is rarely enough.
“If not treated properly, it could lead to a pubalgia in veterans, with degenerative changes that complicate recovery.”
Dr Ardevol also suggested that Yamal’s workload but have been a factor behind his current issue.
“He played 89% of the games last season and had few days off,” he added. “If it is really due to overload, there is no explanation for such a young player to continue accumulating minutes.”
