A day after Deportivo La Coruña made its formal announcement, Bayern Munich acknowledged that it had sold Jonathan Asp Jensen to the Spanish club via a release on its website:
Jonathan Asp Jensen is leaving FC Bayern Munich and joining newly promoted Spanish first division side Deportivo A Coruña. The attacking midfielder moved from FC Midtjylland’s youth academy to the FC Bayern Campus in the summer of 2022 and subsequently progressed through all of the record champions’ youth teams from the U17
level upwards (78 games / 12 goals / 29 assists).
The 20-year-old Dane was on loan to Swiss first division club Grasshopper Club Zurich last season, where he made 40 appearances (9 goals / 6 assists). Jensen had previously made his Bundesliga debut for FC Bayern in May 2024 against Wolfsburg (2-0).
Bayern Munich director of youth development Jochen Sauer talked about Asp Jensen as a success story for the academy.
“Jonny is another example of how young talents can continuously develop at FC Bayern. Since arriving at the campus, he has worked with great ambition on his path to professional football and has steadily improved in our youth teams. With a strong debut season in the Swiss first division, he has taken the next important step. It is well-deserved that he is now joining a club in the Spanish first division and can prove himself at the highest level. We will continue to follow his development,” said Sauer.
Asp Jensen figures to be in position to compete for regular playing time at the first team level at Deportivo La Coruña — something that he probably would have struggled to find at Bayern Munich.
