Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines lost a second player to the transfer portal, as center Malick Kordel is reportedly going to be playing elsewhere next season.
The 7-foot-2 big man from Germany played in 14 games off the bench this year for Michigan, making his collegiate debut in mop-up duty against Oakland in the season opener. He averaged 1.2 points —
connecting on 8-of-14 shots — and 1.5 rebounds per game this season as a true freshman. He also had five blocks and a steal.
With the Wolverines acquiring the commitment of Tennessee center J.P. Estrella on Thursday, it only made sense for Kordel to pursue other opportunities. He likely would have played a bench role again in 2026-27, delaying his path to legitimate playing time for another season. This way, he will get a better chance at earning a starting role at another university.
We wish Kordel all the best as he pursues his basketball playing career outside of Ann Arbor.
