Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will travel with the team to London in advance of a Week 4 clash with the Indianapolis Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
While it’s uncertain, and seemingly unlikely that Daniels will play in that game, the door’s open just the slightest crack.
We know for sure that Daniels will start practicing with the team this week, a not too long after suffering a dislocated left elbow
during a Week 2 loss at Dallas. That starts Daniels’ return to play process, an important
step in getting him back on the field in games.
“He has been putting in the work,” head coach Dan Quinn told reporters in a Monday virtual press conference. “I am excited to get him back on the practice field.”
Daniels is not the only injured Commanders player going to London to start practice. Linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin) and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) will do the same, though the jury’s still out on guard Sam Cosmi (concussion) and safety Nick Cross (internal/illness).
The Commanders leave for England on Tuesday evening.
Daniels’ situation is a positive one that should include a return to play faster than he did in 2025, when he missed three games after suffering the same injury. Quinn didn’t identify why there are different timelines, only that the team doing what it’s told by doctors.
“We’re just following the guidelines for him going through the process of him getting opinions from New York and L.A. sets the plan in motion,” Quinn said. “We’ll stick to that.”
The Commanders will see how Daniels responds in practice and adjust its plans accordingly. Wednesday’s session, after a long travel day, is more of a walk-through. Thursday will be more at full speed and provide a good indication of Daniels’ status.
The same can be said for Luvu and Okonkwo.
“Once we get there, that’ll give us a little more of an indication of where we’re at and how we can go into that space,” Quinn said. “Just the fact that we’re working back into that space gives me optimism heading into the week about where we’re at from a health perspective.”
