The Green Bay Packers brought in six players for workouts on Tuesday, the team’s “off” day this week, just one day after trying out quarterback Cam Miller and defensive lineman Eric Johnson II (a former Packers pre-draft visitor). Clearly, the team is looking to add to the defensive line room, after Nazir Stackhouse and Jaden Crumedy were both added to other 53-man rosters, leaving the Packers with zero players at the position on their practice squad.
Here are the players who were brought in on Tuesday,
according to the NFL transaction wire:
- WR Nick Nash
- WR Bryce Oliver
- WR Quincy Skinner
- ED Cruz Smith
- DL Zxavian Harris
- DL Jalen Hunt
The team targeting three receivers makes sense, too, as the Packers announced the release of Chris Hilton Jr. on Tuesday, leaving them with just Isaiah Neyor at the position on the 17-man practice squad. Currently, Green Bay has just 14 practice squad players under contract, which means they’re able to sign up to three players without making another corresponding roster move.
Nash was an All-American receiver in 2024 after successfully making the transition from quarterback to receiver for San Jose State. He spent his rookie regular season with the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad and was in training camp with the Washington Commanders until cutdown day this offseason.
Oliver started his college career in the SEC at Kentucky before transferring to Youngstown State in the FCS. While he’s only 6’1”, he has a 6’5” wingspan. In the FCS, he was a two-time all-conference player, leading to him having opportunities with the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns over the last three seasons. In total, he’s played 13 regular-season games (all with the Titans), which featured him playing 97 snaps of offense and 104 snaps of special teams. Notably, he returned three kicks (for 113 yards and a long of 54) with Tennessee.
Skinner played college football at Vanderbilt, where he had 66 receptions, 809 yards and eight touchdowns in his career. He has been signed to the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets in the past, but hasn’t played in an NFL regular-season game.
It’s unclear who Cruz Smith is, as he was listed with no college and has not appeared on the NFL transaction report in the past. It’s possible that he’s an international player pathways project.
Meanwhile, the biggest name on this list is probably Harris, whose name has been in the news for several reasons. First of all, he was arrested twice while at Mississippi, the first coming with the charges of DUI, reckless driving, being a minor in possession, not using headlights and running a stop sign. The second arrest was on charges of domestic violence and obstructing arrest.
The 6’8”, 330-pounder went undrafted in the 2026 draft, in large part because of off-field issues, before signing with the New Orleans Saints. He was let go by the Saints in August, which is when he tried to return to college football to play for his former Rebels head coach, Lane Kiffin, at LSU. Harris never practiced with the team, unlike tight end Daq’Quan Wright, but both players were enrolled at LSU before the Tigers finalized their roster, which did not include either player.
Hunt is a big nose tackle-type body who played at Michigan State before transferring to Cincinnati. He signed for $215,000 guaranteed, which would have ranked him among the top undrafted Packers this offseason, with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He remained with the team up until cutdowns, signed with the New England Patriots’ practice squad for a brief period and worked out with the New York Giants yesterday.
Right now, here’s how Green Bay’s practice squad stacks up:
- QB: Kedon Slovis
- RB: Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring injury), Damon Bankston (signed last week)
- WR: Isaiah Neyor
- TE: Drake Dabney
- OL: Josh Gesky, Dalton Cooper, Dillon Wade
- DL: None
- ED: Nyjalik Kelly, Arron Mosby
- LB: Kristian Welch (called up last week due to Ty’Ron Hopper’s injury)
- CB: Domani Jackson
- S: Kahlef Hailassie (signed last week)
- K: Lenny Krieg (international exemption)
