After Swerve Strickland cemented his bonafides as AEW’s Most Dangerous with a victory over Brody King at Revolution on Sunday night, Kenny Omega returned to stop Strickland from taking King out more permanently.
Omega and Strickland each got some time to address one another on Dynamite’s PPV fallout episode tonight (March 18). Kenny did so in a pre-tape from backstage, pitching Swerve on a rematch of their match from last month. Strickland won that one, so to sweeten the pot, Omega offered to put
an AEW World title shot on the line.
If either had been named #1 contender to Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s belt previously, I missed it. It may have been something Omega did with his powers as an Executive Vice-President of AEW. That would explain why Strickland’s counter-offer was for Kenny to put his office job on the line… and more importantly, the power Swerve says comes with it.
Kenny — who hasn’t used his EVP powers for heel purposes lately like the team Swerve and Will Ospreay beat to strip of theirs at All Out last year, The Young Bucks — must have agreed. Because not long later, we learned that Tony Khan made Omega/Strickland II official for next week, with a shot at MJF and the founder’s gig.
