The Athletic | Chris Kirschner: Perhaps *the* take that has soured the most from the offseason is how many of us were grumpy the Yankees brought back Paul Goldschmidt. The former MVP is in the twilight of a career that will likely end at Cooperstown, but you wouldn’t know it from what a stalwart part of the lineup he’s been. With two of the team’s three best hitters on the IL, Goldy’s .889 OPS has been a big part of how the club has been able to keep its head above water despite all those injuries,
and the $4 million contract he signed has already been worth it on a WAR basis.
NJ.com | Randy Miller: Jasson Domínguez had a chaotic day after being called back up to the big-league squad Saturday morning. A madcap dash to the airport, missing luggage, and a World-Cup-worsened drive from Pearson International to downtown Toronto — what locals would call a marathon of hell — had the young outfielder quite off his game, but it was nothing some 600-750mg of caffeine couldn’t fix. That was how much Domínguez ingested ahead of Saturday’s 3:07pm start, and to his credit he did go yard in his return. For the sake of his long-term cardio and gut health though, I’m going to credit his natural talent for the dinger, not all the espresso.
New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: Lifelong 76ers fan Aaron Boone admitted he was in awe of the dominant run to the NBA Championship the Knicks just went on, although he further admitted he fell asleep before the final horn blew in the decisive Game 5 on Saturday. Boone also hoped his team could take some inspiration from the overall vibe of the city in the run to the title, and how New York rallies around its champions.
