Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where the matches of Bayern Munich’s U-23 and U-17 squads are recapped, line ups are provided and the highlights to the matches are hyperlinked on top of their respective score line. Unfortunately, as per usual, the U-19’s cup match was not televised and so no highlights or live streams are available. And Bayern’s website again did not release the U-17’s match highlights. Remember, highlights for each match (only the U-23s this week, unfortunately) can be watched
for free once one has established an account on Bayern’s website.

TSV Aubstadt 0-2 Bayern II (U-23s), Matchday 9
Bayern lineup (with subs): Bärtl – Manuba (63. Kiala), Heindl, Pavić, Kim – Santos (63. Osmani), Lambe, Wilson (71. Binder), Srb (78. Degraf) – Heinz (71. Assomo), Codjo-Evora.
Unused subs: Klanac – Ajayi, Sadat, Gashi.
Goals: 0:1 Codjo-Evora (40.), 0:2 Binder (90.+1)

Position: 11., 11 points
It may have taken a while, but it is clear that the team is starting to understand and execute Dante’s playing philosophy better and better. This resulted in a very dominant 90 minute performance against TSV Aubstadt and an ultimately fairly comfortable victory.
Though, of course, it helps to have a strong lineup and squad. Despite the injury to midfield general Benno Schmitz during the midweek 0-0 draw to Augsburg’s U-23s as well as the unexplained absence of regular starter Bogdan Olychenko, the starting XI and the bench were ridiculous. Bayern simply called up Erblin Osmani from the U-19s and gave him his belated U-23s debut (seriously, in what world does a youngster make his U-23 debut around six months after his first team debut?). Meanwhile, Tim Binder finally returned from his injury and even managed to seal the game with a great solo effort late in the match. The bench of Osmani, Cassiano Kiala, Binder, Bastian Assomo, Richard Ajayi, Mudaser Sadat and Yll Gashi is incredible. The latter three did not even make it on to the pitch!
But the quality of the rest of the players showed in a unified team performance. The team was dominant from the get go, particularly because of the better understanding between the midfield and defense. Whenever the hosts did win the ball back and looked to break, the team did a great job of limiting the space between the lines and coordinating the defensive effort, leading to winning the ball back and continuing their attacks. Even during Aubstadt’s rare good moments when they did manage to play through the press, the team recovered well and stood strong. The hosts created very little throughout the match.
Then again, Bayern did not create that many more chances, either. It was an issue Dante brought up after the match and it will need to keep being worked on. For now, it is good enough that the team is starting to really gel in other areas, which is being reflected in the results. In the first four matches, Bayern picked up just one point after four matches. In the following five matches, they have picked up 10. Now results are always secondary for the U-23s, but establishing a winning feeling remains important and ensuring the team is in no danger of relegation is always paramount. That is exactly what Dante is achieving at the moment.
Bayern U-19s 4-0 MSV Duisburg U-19s, DFB Pokal Round of 16

Bayern U-17s 7-1 SSV Jahn Regensburg U-17s, Matchday 7
Bayern lineup (with subs): Omerovic – Etüz (73. Hiseni), Nduka, Schreyer (63. Hoffmann), Herber (63. Rama) – Ciglar, Rieber, Ludwig, Mahr (73. Dachgruber) – Krasniqi (82. Zubovic).
Goals: 0:1 Schmidt (4.), 1:1 Mahr (6.), 2:1 Schreyer (24.), 3:1 Mahr (47.), 4:1 Ludwig (54.), 5:1 Krasniqi (57.), 6:1 Krasniqi (77.), 7:1 Ludwig (83.).
Position: 1., 18 points
Having fallen to an embarrassing and unnecessary 4-3 loss to second to bottom SSV Ulm last weekend and lost the top spot in the table, the U-17s needed to show a reaction. The game started just like against Ulm, however, conceding a very early goal to put themselves at an early deficit. What was different was the reaction, as Maximilian Mahr scored the equalizer just two minutes later. What followed was a very even match, with both chances creating chances before center back Tim Schreyer gave Bayern the go ahead goal in the 24th minute. At half-time, the game was still on the balance.
Then came the second half.
Within 12 minutes and amid some clinical finishing, Bayern had extended their lead to a dominant 5-1 . Two more goals led to the final 7-1 scoreline, meaning the U-17s had matched the senior team by scoring seven goals on the day. This means that Bayern go into the international break at the top of the table again, at the exact halfway point of phase 1 of the season.
