The Washington Commanders played the 49ers on Monday Night Football before their bye week. Now they come back home for another primetime game, this time hosting the Philadelphia Eagles for a division rematch. The NFC East is so bad this season that the Giants are in 1st place in Week 8. This game will determine who sits at the bottom of the division, with the Commanders currently owning that distinction. The Eagles are on a 5-game losing streak. They lost QB Jalen Hurts for the season due to blood
clots, and are dealing with an injured roster that parallels Washington’s over the last two seasons.
Washington is 1-4-1 for the season, and this is a make-or-break game for head coach Dan Quinn and the Commanders. It could be a similar situation in Philadelphia with a team that has already traded players away as the losses continue to mount. The Eagles defense fell apart last week on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys, and looks like it can be exploited again this week. Jayden Daniels had his best passing game of the season before the bye, and will look for a similar showing this week.
The Washington Commanders injury report has been slimming down, and the week off has helped get the team healthier for the second part of the season. Only one player was ruled out for Sunday night’s matchup, DT Javon Kinlaw (knee). Daron Payne (foot) popped up on today’s injury report, which would be a big issue for defensive line depth if he can’t play. The Eagles will have Saquon Barkley, and whichever running back they signed off the street this week to back him up after another one was placed on IR.
This game has a low O/U with oddsmakers not expecting much from two teams who have a combined three wins after two months of football. I’m taking the over here, and I think the Commanders will be able to handle business at home with Jayden Daniels finding a new favorite target in third-round rookie WR Antonio Williams. Dan Quinn said he expected his playing time to increase with McLaurin out, and he has already showed why coaches are excited about him in games. Time to take that opportunity against a team that is reeling.
We’ve got some prop bets from FanDuel Sportsbook for Week 6’s game that will be fun to follow.
