It was an up and down night for the affiliates. The IronPigs walked off their opponent, and the BlueClaws were walked off by theirs. The Threshers managed just a single hit in a loss, and the Fightin Phils managed just four in what turned out to be a victory. Baseball, at any level, is a a wild and wonderful thing.
Lehigh Valley 3, Columbus 2 (10)
It was a low-scoring thriller for the IronPigs, who walked off the Clippers. Bryan De La Cruz doubled to lead off the bottom of the tenth, and Columbus chose
to give an intentional walk to Dylan Carson. That brought up Otto Kemp, who quickly punished the Clippers, doubling to bring the affair to a happy conclusion. Keaton Anthony and Dylan Moore contributed the other two Lehigh Valley runs on doubles in the first and seventh innings, respectively. De La Cruz also had a strong day, going two for three with a pair of walks. Brian Keller had an excellent start of 6 innings pitched with six strikeouts, just four hits and one run surrendered, and no free passes given. Michael Mercado got the win with a two inning performance.
Reading 2, Somerset 1
The Fightin Phils only scored in one inning. It was enough, as the Patriots were held to the same… and they got only one lonesome run in their lone scoring inning. Reading had four hits on the night. Two of them came from Pedro León. But the run came from Raylin Heradia, who homered to provide the only scoring of the night for the good guys. Starter Gage Wood struck out four and allowed two hits across 3 innings of work.
Frederick 8, Jersey Shore 7 (11)
The BlueClaws had 15 hits to the Keys’ 7, but allowed four runs in the bottom of the ninth as the game went to extras. A sacrifice fly in the 11th spelled defeat for the aquatic affiliate, their ninth defeat in a row. Every BlueClaw had a hit on the night, and Devin Saltiban lead the team with three. Starter Reese Dutton allowed three hits, two runs, and one walk to go with seven strikeouts in six innings of work. However, two of those hits were homers. Gabe Craig allowed two earned runs in the ninth, then had the hard luck of being on the mound as errors resulted in the two unearned runs that tied the game.
Tampa 7, Clearwater 0
The Threshers were held to just one hit in a blowout loss to Tampa. Only a single from Nolan Beltran in the second inning separated them from being no hit. Starter Cade Obermueller struggled, allowing four earned runs on five hits and four walks across 3.2 innings (though he did accrue seven strikeouts).
