I appreciate the Yankees finding a way to fight back after the 7-1 loss that began this home series against Toronto. It could have ended poorly with them just rolling over as the Jays kept dominating while waltzing to the AL East crown. And that still might happen! Toronto (and Boston) holding the tiebreaker over New York is a crusher, especially since it will likely accompany a first-round bye. However, the Yankees have at least given themselves a chance — perhaps a small comfort in one sense given the division
lead they once had in the first half, but what’s done is done. The only way forward is, well, forward.
Today on the site, Estevão will salute the multiple surprising old veteran in the AL East, Jake will have the Rivalry Roundup, John will check out the 2000 Yankees Diary, and Madison will post the weekly mailbag prompt.
Today’s Matchup:
Offday
(There’s one more of these to go! Tomorrow, the Yankees begin a stretch of 19 games in 20 days to end the year, with a breather on September 22nd.)
Questions/Prompts:
1. The Yankees went 4-2 against Houston and Toronto this past week. Do you think they’ll also manage to win both series against Detroit and Boston?
2. Any general “first Sunday of the NFL season” thoughts?
