Lexington native Reece Potter missed Friday night’s Exhibition game vs. Purdue with an illness, according to a Kentucky spokesperson.
Thankfully, Kentucky was still able to make easy work of Purdue, winning
78-65. It’s an unfortunate setback, as this was a game Kentucky had 10 players log double-digit minutes, so it stands to reason he would have gotten some run at center.
Potter is a transfer from Miami (OH) and grew up a Wildcats fan, living in Lexington while playing for Lexington Catholic.
In Potter’s place, Malachi Moreno stepped in and had eight points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal. Andrija Jelavic had three points and five rebounds in his first taste of game action as a Wildcat. Brandon Garrison also had seven points and four rebounds in Kentucky’s frontcourt.
The Wildcats still got a lot of production from their frontcourt with Potter missing the game, which is a good sing. They limited Purdue’s Trey Kaufman-Renn to just five rebounds. Even though Kaufman-Renn had 19 points, he had to take 15 shots to get there.
It was a good night for the Wildcats, and their frontcourt looks the part heading into the season, even with Jayden Quaintance likely missing at least the first month of action. That could pave the way for Potter to log minutes here and there, especially against mid-major foes.
