Many fans probably would have been shocked to hear that the defense is holding their own in training camp so far. There have even been days when defenders have dominated. The presence of defensive linman Dexter Lawrence and safety Bryan Cook have really changed the feel of this entire defense.
That isn’t to diminish players like Boye Mafe constantly pressuring quarterback Joe Burrow as well. You can just see how much the offense has to account for those guys, and also how easy it is for them to absolutely
blow things up.
It would be nice to see the offense go off more than a few plays during practice, but safe to say most fans will take this change of pace. At least for now that is.

Will Wagner Looks to Engineer Uneventful Year Two
“I use my mechanical engineering degree pretty much every day in long snapping,” Wagner said in an interview while at Michigan. “In engineering, I have to know how matter is going to react if I put force in one place compared to another, and it’s the same in long snapping — how is the ball going to fly if I snap it one way versus another?”
A very interesting look into the mind of a long snapper. If you have been a Bengals fan long enough you do not take for granted having a quality long snapper in the fold.
Training Camp Report | New-Look Defense Turning Heads
It was Carter who had a day Tuesday, playing downhill and, for the most part, helping bottle up an inside running game that had gouged holes the day before. Featuring some collisions with tight end Erick All Jr. as fullback. Knight was good, too, but Carter is the guy talking to Golden in his helmet before every play and getting them lined up.
The defense as a whole had some really nice things to say about Barrett Carter and his performance so far in training camp. It is something fans will hope to see during the season. I sure I am not alone in that I would willingly eat crow if Carter turns things around.
Bengals’ offensive players and coaches say Dexter Lawrence is dominating practices
“There’s certain guys in this league like Dexter who wreck a whole game play and you have to do everything around them and you change everything you’re doing,” Risner said. “You’re going to have to change how you block against certain guys. He’s just making us do it really early and really often.”
It certainly isn’t surprising to see Lawrence do these kinds of things. When the trade happened many were worried we might be getting a player on decline. It seems like that could not be further from the truth the way the offense is talking.

The man truly deserves all the flowers he recieves. He was such a foundational piece over his career, and for too long, he was the only Bengals player in the Hall of Fame. Even though he has some company now, Muñoz will always be the player fans should think of when talking about the best Bengals of all-time.
