The USMNT began the 2030 World Cup cycle with a 4-1 friendly win over Peru. Julian Hall opened the scoring, nodding home a free kick from Gio Reyna. In the second half, the substitutes broke the game open. Mathis Albert came off the bench to draw a penalty, which Malik Tillman despatched. Sebastian Berhalter’s cross found Julian Hall to fire home from close range (both substitutes). In the final minutes, Hall returned the favor with some good hold-up play, and dropping back to Berhalter, who curled
it in from distance. No surprise to see those substitutes the top of the pecking order, with Berhalter the clear Man of the Match.
