Will GUNTHER strike out yet again when he challenges for the WWE championship this weekend? Can Sami Zayn finally win the big one in Saudi Arabia? Let’s find out the answer in today’s rumors!
Top rumor of the day: WWE creative plans at Night of Champions
A source who is familiar with WWE’s creative plans gave WrestleVotes Radio the scoop on who is expected to win tomorrow (Sat., June 27) at the Night of Champions PLE.
Right off the top, it doesn’t look like there will be any title changes in Saudi Arabia. WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is expected to win against GUNTHER
and Sami Zayn. Women’s United States Champion Tiffany Stratton and United States Champion Trick Williams are also likely to retain their belts.
In addition to that, IYO SKY is the favorite to win the Queen of the Ring tournament over Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan.
It’s worth noting there is more uncertainty about Tiffy Time going over Jade Cargill than the others winners listed above.
Meanwhile, it sounds like “multiple finishes” have been considered for the steel cage match between Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker. Votes’ source wasn’t confident enough to pick a favorite in that match.
Finally, “plans remain quiet” on the King of the Ring final between Oba Femi and Jey Uso. How about that?
The rest of the rumors!
- Even though “Jungle” Jack Perry wrestled on this week’s episode of Dynamite, F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez said Jungle “still has not re-signed” with AEW as of Thursday morning.
- For whatever it’s worth, WrestleVotes heard some talk that TNA is interested in signing former WWE star Apollo Crews after his 90-day non-compete clause is over.
- Regarding the rumored new championship that’s coming to TNA, Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer says it is a Knockouts television title. TNA will likely make the announcement before the end of Sunday’s Slammiversary pay-per-view.
- TNT’s TV schedule shows that AEW Collision will air on two different Thursdays next month (July 2 and July 30). It’s being moved off Saturday, July 4, due to the debut of TNT Boxing. The latter schedule change is likely to avoid going head-to-head with night one of WWE SummerSlam on August 1.
- Furthermore, there is a lot of speculation that TNT Boxing’s monthly events will force AEW Collision to be pre-empted one Saturday each month and presumably moved to Thursday night when that happens, going partially head-to-head against TNA Impact.
- Fightful Select indicates that last week’s commercial free first hour of SmackDown was planned “well in advance” by WWE and the USA network as a “precautionary measure” just in case the NBA Finals went to a Game 7.
- Per Votes, there is speculation in the WWE locker room that the go home episode of Raw before WrestleMania 43 aka SaudiMania next year will take place in London, just like this week’s go home Raw before Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.
