We enter February and teams are starting to separate themselves at the top after Gran Canyon defeated Boise State, Nevada defeated UNLV, and Utah State defeated San Diego State. There are also some players that are making strong cases for player of the year honors. Let’s take a look at which student-athletes stood out from this last week of action.
Offensive Player of the Week
Corey Camper Jr. (Nevada)
The senior guard out of Arkansas had arguably his best game of year against UNLV on Friday. Camper had 32 points in the Wolf Pack’s
89-76 win. On the week, Camper averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.
Defensive Player of the Week
Tomislav Buljan (New Mexico)
The freshman run continued his successful freshman season with one of the best weeks of his young career. Buljan was a beast on the boards, averaging 10.5 rebounds on the week. It was an impressive defensive showing and he also got in done on the offensive side of the floor where he averaged 17.5 points in wins over San Jose State and UNLV.
Newcomer of the Week
Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (UNLV)
The Illinois transfer had arguably his best game as a Rebel in a loss to Nevada where he had 26 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. For the week, Giibs-Lawhorn averaged 17 points.
Freshman of the Week
Jake Hall (New Mexico)
The freshman guard continued his impressive run with another great weed. In wins over San Jose State and UNLV, Hall averaged 21.5 points and shot over 50% from beyond the arc. Hall is emerging as one of the most elite scorers in the Mountain West.
