The Mets have called up 28-year-old right-handed pitcher Xzavion Curry from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned Chayce McDermott, who’s also a 28-year-old right-handed pitcher, to Syracuse. With McDermott having thrown two innings for the Mets in their loss to the Brewers last night, the move gives the major league team a fresh arm.

Rosters are set to expand on September 1, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Mets continue to their bullpen churn both before and after that happens. The team has made

a regular habit of calling pitchers up from and sending pitchers down to Syracuse over the past couple of seasons. Thirty-six different players have pitched for the Mets this year, including position players.

As for the pitchers involved in the roster move today, Curry has a 2.81 ERA and a 4.77 FIP in 16.0 major league innings with the Mets this year. McDermott has thrown a total of just 7.2 innings in the big leagues this year, having appeared with the Dodgers and Mets, and he has a 5.87 ERA and a 6.48 FIP in that brief sample.
