The No. 5 LSU Tigers put on an offensive clinic on Sunday afternoon, defeating Georgia Southern, 118-70, in front of a sold-out record crowd of 5,322 fans at The Hill. The game served as a homecoming for
LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson, a Savannah native who helped lead the Tigers to their third-consecutive victory to open the season.
While LSU’s 118 points will grab headlines, the game was decided on the glass. The Tigers dominated the rebounding battle, outworking Georgia Southern 59-25. LSU converted that advantage into a balanced offensive attack, shooting 53 percent from the floor while holding Georgia Southern to just 37 percent.
In her homecoming performance, Johnson scored 19 points. MiLaysia Fulwiley also tallied 19 points in an impressive showing. The depth of head coach Kim Mulkey’s squad was on full display as well, as six Tigers finished in double figures. For Georgia Southern, Kyla Bryant led the way for the Eagles, with four other players also reaching double figures.
LSU improves to 3-0 on the season while Georgia Southern falls to 1-2. Next up for LSU is Charlotte, and next up for Georgia Southern is Missouri State.
