NORMAN, Okla. — Alexandra Vidal birdied the final hole to claim her first career individual title and led Iowa State to a team victory at the Schooner Fall Classic.
On the 18th, Vidal was tied for first place with Satonkan Thiengsri, a sophomore for the Sooners. Emma Zheng sat one stroke behind. Thiengsri parred the final hole and Zheng birdied to create a three-way tie for the lead as Zheng sought a second consecutive individual title to begin her career.
Playing directly behind Zheng, Vidal needed
a par to share medalist honors or a birdie to win outright. She recorded her tournament-leading 18th birdie to close with a second consecutive round of 66 and finish at 10 under par.
Iowa State won the team championship with a tournament-record total of 30 under par (274-267-269=810), earning its second straight victory to open the season and defeating second-place host Oklahoma by 17 strokes.
The Cyclones’ final-round 269 was the sixth-lowest round in program history, and the 810 aggregate total marked the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history. All three rounds placed among the top 10 lowest in program history. Iowa State’s 30-under total stands as the second-lowest score relative to par in school history, behind an NCAA-record 60-under performance at the 2023 MountainView Collegiate. The team also led the field in par-4 scoring (-13) and overall birdies (62).
Isabella Yan posted a career-best finish, tying for sixth at 6 under par. Yan recorded three sub-70 rounds after entering the event with just one in her previous two seasons, including a career-low 67 in the second round. Her 54-hole total of 204 tied for the seventh-lowest in team history, featuring nine birdies and three bogeys.
Nichakorn Pinprayoon became the fourth Iowa State golfer in the top 10, marking her 11th career top-10 finish. She posted a 205 (-5), tying the 11th-lowest 54-hole score in ISU history while tallying 12 birdies.
