Manuel Neuer’s current contact at Bayern Munich is set to expire in the summer of 2026, but the veteran keeper is currently poised to get at least another year with the German Rekordmeister. It was reported
last week that the club is not closed off to the idea of offering Neuer a one-year extension at some point before the end of this current season so long as the Bayern captain is remaining fully fit and healthy and performing as well as he currently has been. The club does have plans of trying to work Jonas Urbig into the number one keeper slot once Neuer starts to phase out, but there is no indication right now that Neuer can’t be the starter for at least another season unless something drastic happens.
Per information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), contract renewal talks between Neuer and the club are set to take place at some point this winter. More specifically, talks are slated to take place around the Christmas period during the Bundesliga’s winter-pause period.
Essentially, as it was reported last week, the proverbial ball is in Neuer’s court right now. He has been performing solidly thus far this season and has been able to stay healthy – something that has not been the case in recent seasons. More than once in the past, Neuer has been rushed back from different injury problems that wound up causing more harm than good, but lessons have been learned and extra precautions have been implemented in recent season’s when he’s dealt with injury problems.
Should things proceed as expected and Neuer signs a one-year extension, that would effectively spell the end of a potential future at Bayern for Alexander Nübel, who is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart after having loan stints at AS Monaco in Ligue 1. For the former Schalke 04 keeper, it had become clear that he was not going to get ample time at Bayern as long as Neuer was around, so his agent pushed for him to go elsewhere to get starting experience at a top-flight club. At this point, too, Nübel would be sold from Bayern if Neuer signs for another year as opposed to doing another loan spell somewhere else.
