I’ve been preaching about the youth movement WWE has pushed with its Money in the Bank ladder matches this year but there’s only so many young guys in they can push without including some veteran top level talent. That’s how we ended up with a triple threat qualifier featuring CM Punk, GUNTHER, and Finn Balor, which took place in the main event of this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown
in Indianapolis.It was a mad dash to the finish, with no short supply of finishers from all three men. No
different than every other qualifier before it, they did a variation of the same beat to end it — one wrestler hits a finish, another comes in to take advantage of it. GUNTHER had a sleeper on Punk when Balor came in with the Coup de Grace, and it was Punk who took advantage before Finn could get back.
It’s worth noting the two showed respect to each other after the match, despite how the finish played out.
Punk joins a field teeming with hungry talent in Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, and Penta. The final slot will be decided on next week’s episode of SmackDown.
