The first time around for Greg Schiano was a long time ago — and he might be losing any good will built up from that time.
Entering year seven in his second tenure, Schiano has yet to make Rutgers a consistent participant in bowl season, which was considered the minimum.
Yes, the Scarlet Knights participate in the Big Ten, which is arguably the best conference in the nation. In today’s era of college football, there are multiple avenues to take in attempts to build a winner. Schiano has yet to do that
at Rutgers.
In a conference loaded with talent on the field and on the sideline, it begs the question — where does Schiano rank among head coaches?
Paul Myerberg of USA Today put together his annual ranking of Big Ten head coaches and Schiano came in at No. 14 out of 18 coaches.
Here is what was said of the Scarlet Knights head coach:
“Schiano’s days back at Rutgers may be numbered given how his second go-round has yet to yield anything close to a breakthrough. His overall track record is strong, though, even if almost entirely tilted toward the six winning seasons he posted with the Scarlet Knights from 2005-11.”
The list featured a new name at the top. Curt Cignetti led Indiana to the National Championship so it was only right that he took over the top spot. Ryan Day and Dan Lanning were next up. Newcomers Kyle Whittingham and Matt Campbell both ranked in the top eight as well.
