Heading into the 2026 NFL season, Joe Brady is the NFL’s youngest head coach at the ripe old age of 36. And while he has spent the past few years working with Josh Allen and directing one of the league’s highest scoring offenses, Brady says his primary focus has always been on connecting with his players through his authentic, energetic approach to leadership.
“I never thought my identity was, ‘I want to be a head coach,'” Brady told BuffaloBills.com. “I just wanted to call plays.”
After spending time
as Buffalo’s quarterbacks coach (2022-23), interim offensive coordinator (2023) and offensive coordinator (2024-25), Brady realized he was ready to take on the challenge of being a head coach.
Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by breaking down Brady’s leadership and coaching style, discussing what motivates Brady and finding out how Brady is bringing a new energy to the Bills.

How Joe Brady is preparing for his head coaching debut
Head coach Joe Brady is preparing for his first meaningful game leading the Buffalo Bills, but as he’s leading the preparations for Sunday’s season opener against the Houston Texans, Brady admits he’s not focusing at all on the fact that this will be his head coaching debut.
“I’m run different. I don’t ever take those seconds and appreciate that,” said Brady ahead of Wednesday’s practice in Orchard Park. “I know we have a huge test for our guys this week, and I’ve got to be whatever they need me to be. That’s the most important thing.”
“He’s the first one in, the last one out,” quarterback Josh Allen said. “When he says he loves to work, he truly loves to work,” Allen said. “He loves football, he loves this game.”
