High-scoring games across the board in the Dodgers minor league system, with no team scoring or allowing fewer than six runs in any of the four games. Also worth noting, both Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow made rehab starts.
Player of the day
Although he played for the only one of the four minor league affiliates that didn’t win, Josue De Paula had an impressive game, doing about as much as one might wish to receive from a leadoff hitter.
The twenty-one-year-old outfield prospect started the game with a solo shot on the first pitch. He went on to reach base in four of his next five plate appearances, but not once was he driven in, with the three hitters after him going 0 for 14.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Laboring in a rehab outing, Blake Snell allowed multiple home runs, walked three, and struck out a pair in 3.2 innings of work, reaching 73 pitches before getting pulled in the middle of the fourth. Despite this shaky start, the Comets earned the 10-6 win over the Bees.
Scoring three in the first and another three in the second, the Comets came out firing on all cylinders to eventually reach double digits. With each of the team’s first three hitters recording multiple walks, the Comets offense finished the game with more free passes (9) than punchouts (8). Ryan Ward had the best day offensively with four RBI on three hits.
Double-A Tulsa
Although the three errors from the Drillers’ defense resulted in just one unearned run, it was by a single run that they lost this game to the Hooks with a final score of 8 to 7. All but one of those runs went to the line of starter Payton Martin, whose extended leash proved ill-advised, allowing 11 hits and 7 runs in 3.1 innings.
Taking advantage of the many free passes handed out by the Hooks pitching staff, Josue De Paula reached base five times, but was let down by Jake Gelof and Elijah Hainline, consistently unable to drive him in.
High-A Great Lakes
A five-run ninth inning nearly cost the Loons the victory, but they had enough in the bank to outlast the Dragons in a final score of 8 to 7. The biggest hit in the game came from the only Loons player with multiple RBI, Emil Morales, hitting a three-run shot in the seventh.
Performing like a strikeout machine since his call-up to High-A, starter Tyler Gough punched out a season-high 11 and allowed just one hit and a run in 5.2 innings. Meanwhile, reliever Reynaldo Yean nearly threw it all away in the ninth, hitting a batter and walking three before exiting without recording an out, leaving a mess to be cleaned by Justin Chambers and Davis Chastain.
Single-A Ontario
Tyler Glasnow made a rehab start in which he pounded the strike zone, and Storm hitters responded by swinging early and not missing much—Glasnow needed just 16 pitches to complete two innings with one hit allowed and a strikeout. Despite seeing their first two hitters strike out a combined five times and giving up the lead on three separate occasions, the Tower Buzzers prevailed in the end thanks to a three-run rally in the 10th, beating the Storm 9 to 6.
Responsible for half of the team’s eight RBI, Oswaldo Osorio hit a two-run shot in extras after center fielder Brendan Tunink handed them the lead with an RBI single. Tunink had an active game on the base paths as well, stealing a couple of bases and scoring twice.
Transactions
Tyler Glasnow was sent to the Tower Buzzers and Blake Snell to the Oklahoma City Comets for rehab assignments. Emmet Sheehan and Eliezer Alfonso were demoted to the Comets, who were also assigned right-handed pitcher Antonio Knowles, shortstop Bryan Gonzalez Garcia, and right-handed pitcher Griff McGarry.
The Tulsa Drillers activated first baseman Joe Vetrano and placed outfielder Kendall George on the IL. Right-handed pitcher Jacob Kmatz and shortstop Logan Wagner were also sent to the Drillers.
Shortstop Mairoshendrick Martinus was sent to the Great Lakes Loons, who had to place Jakob Wright on the injured list. Lastly, left-handed pitchers Charlie West and Ian May were assigned to the Tower Buzzers.
