Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has again been linked with a potential summer transfer.
The new leader in Gordon’s sweepstakes comes from a report by The Sun, which is placing Arsenal atop the contenders to land the Newcastle winger.
Speculation surrounding the 25-year-old has intensified despite his long-term contract on Tyneside and public insistence that he remains focused on Newcastle.
According to The Sun, “Arsenal will target Anthony Gordon this summer – and they hope to land him for £75million.”
The report states that the Premier League giants are “currently ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United in the race for the England international and believe he would be happy to head south and move to London.”
The Sun also claims Newcastle would demand at least £95 million, which aligns with prior reports, but that “realistically, Arsenal are likely to end up paying between £75m and £80m.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be a long-time admirer of Gordon, dating back to his time at Everton, and with his club finally getting over the hump and contending for the league title every year, it makes sense for the Gooners to try and land as great a player as Gordon is.
The report notes that Gordon has recently featured centrally for Eddie Howe and that Arteta values his versatility.
Although Gordon has previously dismissed transfer talk and stated he is happy at Newcastle, The Sun reports that he “could move if the club receives the right offer.”
At this stage, however, no formal bid has been reported either from Arsenal, Liverpool, or any other suitor.
