Barcelona president Joan Laporta is being tipped to call the next presidential elections in April of next year.
According to Diario Sport, Laporta is planning on holding the election before the end of the season
and while the first team are – hopefully – still in contention for silverware.
Laporta has already announced his intention to seek re-election in 2026
and has talking up the work he’s done in his second tenure as president.“We’ve made difficult decisions, we’ve worked under pressure. It’s been an important year in the club’s recovery, and I’d like to run in the next elections,” he told RAC1.
“I believe this project, which I have the honor of leading, deserves to continue. We made brave, courageous, and controversial decisions, and we’ve moved forward, both to stop this campaign of institutional discredit that has taken hold in some sectors, especially among rivals.”
Victor Font is expected to run again after finishing behind Laporta last time around, while Sport say that several other candidates – Joan Camprubi Montal, Xavi Vilajoana and Marc Ciria – could also be in the running.
