The Milwaukee Brewers, winners of six of their last seven games, are back on the road this weekend, as they’ll take on the Minnesota Twins after a solid homestand that included a pair of series wins against the Yankees and Padres. The Twins have also won each of their last two series, taking two of three against both the Guardians and Marlins.
Starting for the Brewers on the mound tonight is right-hander Coleman Crow, freshly called up from Triple-A Nashville. Left-handed reliever Brian Fitzpatrick
was optioned to make room for him on the roster, though he’s been successful during his first major league cameo — across four appearances (5 2/3 innings), he allowed just one run, striking out four.
Crow, 25, made his MLB debut in Miami about a month ago. He went 5 1/3 innings in that one, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four in a no-decision, as the Brewers would go on to win in extra innings. While he had a rough start back on April 24 in his return to Triple-A (eight earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings), he has bounced back nicely in his last two appearances, totaling 11 1/3 innings with one run allowed and 11 strikeouts to pick up a pair of wins.
Opposing Crow is Joe Ryan, who is now in his sixth season. He’s been solid thus far this season, with a 3.43 ERA over 44 2/3 innings across nine starts, striking out 45. He went six innings against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits, three walks, and a hit batter with five strikeouts.
Beyond the swap of Crow and Fitzpatrick, the only other notable roster announcement from today is that outfielder Akil Baddoo has been sent on a rehab assignment with Nashville. Baddoo, 27, spent the last five years with Detroit. He agreed to a major league deal with Milwaukee back in December and got off to a solid start this spring, hitting .300/.348/.500 over seven games before going down with a quad injury. On the 60-day IL, he’ll be eligible to return in late May.
First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. on the Brewers Radio Network and Brewers.TV.
