The Green Bay Packers’ Thursday practice came with some good news and some bad news. The good news is that rookie second-round cornerback Brandon Cisse, who got the start at left cornerback in Week 1, is now completely off the injury report after leaving Sunday’s loss early with cramps. For anyone who saw Carrington Valentine’s short but impactful handful of snaps (derogatory)
that will be music to your ears. The bad news is that defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, who came into the year dealing with
a knee injury, was also listed as a limited participant for Wednesday’s practice due to a concussion. On Thursday, his status was downgraded to being a non-participant.
Before practice on Thursday, head coach Matt LaFleur said that both Hargrave and Lukas Van Ness (another player with a surprise concussion status on Wednesday) were in the league’s concussion protocol due to contact they sustained in Sunday’s game, not Wednesday’s practice (usually when a player gets injured midway through a practice, his status is listed as limited for that day).
For whatever reason, though, Hargrave’s health seems to be trending in a downward direction. The only other non-participant on Thursday was defensive lineman Warren Brinson (calf), who was inactive for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
The limited participants for Green Bay today were left guard Aaron Banks (knee), right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee), defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt (ankle), edge defender Barryn Sorrell (foot) and linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper (Achilles), along with Van Ness. Banks and Hopper were not active last week due to injury, but the rest of the players on the list were able to finish Week 1’s action (as was Hargrave). Banks’ situation is still touch and go, but it seems like the group of Bako-Bewele, Wyatt and Sorrell should be able to suit up on Sunday, with Hopper (missed last week), Hargrave (concussion) and Van Ness (concussion) being the question marks and Brinson likely to miss action.
On the Jets’ end of the injury report, starting linebacker Jamien Sherwood (knee) and second-round rookie cornerback D’Angelo Ponds (calf) went from limited participants to full participants over the last two days. Sherwood played last week against the Tennessee Titans, but Ponds was inactive for the game.
Edge rusher Will McDonald IV (ankle) popped up on the injury report for the first time this week on Thursday, after not being listed on the injury report at all yesterday. Apparently, he suffered an injury that led to him being a limited participant today. We’ll keep you updated on New York’s designated pass-rusher when we hear news there.
Rookie first-round pick Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle), starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin), edge defender Joseph Ossai (foot) and running back/returner Kene Nwangwu haven’t practiced with the team this week. Cooper and Fitzpatrick left the game early last week, while Ossai and Nwangwu weren’t healthy enough to be activated. If you want a full breakdown of the Jets’ personnel going into Week 2, including how injuries come into play with the team, you’re going to love this article that we published earlier today.
