Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya quickly caught up with some boxing media over the weekend to give his reaction to Arnold Barboza’s win over Kenneth Sims, as well as share his feelings about where things stand in regards to an anticipated rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney.
De La Hoya on Barboza’s win over Sims
“Barboza did well. I was actually surprised by Sims, that he couldn’t really figure out Barboza. But it’s a testament to Barboza’s skills, so he did very well.”
On where things are headed with a Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney rematch
“No update yet. No official update. But if you ask me
personally, that’s the fight that should happen next. I think Devin Haney proved he deserves the fight so I think Ryan vs Devin should be next.”
On Rolly Romero saying he has a fight with Haney set for end of May
“Good for him [laughs]. Hey, he beat Ryan, Ryan beat Devin — I mean, I call for a round-robin right there. That’s the way you do it back in the days, the best fights the best, this and that, so it’s all good.”
