My pick for 2026: In the playoffs (NFC wild card). The Giants? Yes, the same Giants who finished 4-13 in 2025. Do I think they’re better than the Packers? No. But acknowledging that history tells us three teams from this bucket at the bottom of the 2025 standings will make it to the playoffs in 2026, the Giants look a lot like the Bears and Jaguars did a year
ago — better than they seemed the year before and in position to make a leap.
Can New York overcome a difficult schedule? The Giants rank eighth in projected strength of schedule, per the FPI, with a slightly easier slate than the Cowboys and Commanders, whom they might compete with for a playoff spot. Of course, a year ago, the Bears were projected to face the league’s fourth-toughest schedule heading into the season, but with improved coaching and a step forward from their second-year quarterback, they jumped from worst to first in the NFC North. I don’t think the Giants make that sort of push and win the division, but I do think they’re capable of being the league’s most surprising wild-card team.

So we can have a great press conference, or we can make it uncomfortable.”
“But I’m not going to tell you because when you know, the Cowboys know — or every other team we play knows. And that’s not in the competitive interest of our football team. Does that make sense? So, I think you can respect that.”

On releasing veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton: “We always make all of our personnel decisions about what’s best for the team immediately and in the long-term future. What gives us the best chance to be the best team we can be and that’s the choice that we made.”
A lot of factors went into the timing. “Maybe you can get a trade,” Harbaugh said. “Maybe you try to wait as long as you can to see if you work out a contract change, right? There’s a lot of reasons to it.”

Coach John Harbaugh is expected to ride the ground game to help quarterback Jaxson Dart as much as possible. And like their counterparts in New Jersey, the Giants can be scary if they can build early leads. Outside linebackers Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, as well as inside linebacker Arvell Reese, are as athletic as any collection of rushers in the league.

The Giants win eight games. The Giants didn’t just hire a new coach. They hired one who had only three losing seasons in 18 years with Baltimore. Malik Nabers looks primed to play in the opener. That’s huge. The offensive line is as talented as it’s been in more than a decade. The defense is loaded with pass rushers.
Tennessee, Arizona, Washington twice, Indianapolis, and Cleveland are all winnable games. Win those six, and the Giants need to steal two others. I like their chances of doing that with Harbaugh. I do have reservations about Jaxson Dart. The quarterback wasn’t good this summer, struggling to pick up offensive coordinator Matt Nagy’s pro-style scheme. But if it clicks and he plays like a top-15 passer, there’s no reason the Giants can’t get to nine wins and sneak in as a Wild Card team. That is a big if.

Since the opening of the $1.6 billion stadium, the Giants have hosted seven regular-season opening games in East Rutherford. As has been the case for Big Blue in general over the last decade plus, they haven’t fared too well in Week 1 home games.
In fact, the Giants haven’t won a Week 1 home game since they beat the Carolina Panthers, 31-18, to begin the 2010 season. That was also the very first game played at MetLife Stadium, which was known as New Meadowlands Stadium at the time.
