According to Kicker (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Finn Dahmen trained separately from Jonas Urbig and Noah Atubolu today, a strong indication that the Augsburg goalkeeper is in line to start against Greece tomorrow.
If confirmed, Dahmen would become the fourth different goalkeeper to start in as many games under Klopp since the German coach took charge. That is quite the introduction to international management for Klopp, who has already used a considerable number of players while trying to get a feel
for his squad.
The goalkeeper position has been particularly interesting. Marc-André ter Stegen remains an important figure for Germany, but Klopp has also used the Nations League as an opportunity to look at the next group of options. Atubolu and Urbig have both received chances, with Urbig making his Germany debut against Serbia after being given the nod during the current international break.
Now it appears to be Dahmen’s turn.
For the Augsburg goalkeeper, this represents a valuable opportunity to make his case. Starting against Greece would give him a chance to show Klopp what he can offer in a competitive international match rather than simply being another name in the squad.
It also reinforces one of the biggest themes of Klopp’s early Germany tenure: experimentation.
With the World Cup still ahead, Klopp has been able to cast a wide net and evaluate different combinations rather than immediately settling on one definitive lineup.
And for Germany’s goalkeepers, that means the competition remains very much open.
