Breaking News:
The 2026 Transfer Portal window closed at midnight on Tuesday (4/21). There are always a few final updates that get added late simply due to paperwork/communication delay, and there is the coaching change exception. This year there was one coaching change (and 52 others we don’t care about), and those players get a 30-day
window from the date of the change to submit their names. Whatshisname left March 26, so the opportunity is still available for NC State players to add their names. That’s you, Mikey.
According to Verbal Commits, the total number of names in the portal is 2,659. Doing some quick, back of the napkin math, that’s approximately 48% of the potential total D1 scholarships. But the roster turnover percentage would be higher if you take into account the players with expiring eligibility and the schools that might not have 15 players on their roster.
In the ACC, there are 133 names reported, which averaged out to over 6 players per team. Not suprisingly, four of the five schools with the largest numbers have new coaches, plus there is Wake Forest. Who’s winning? Depends on your perspective. NC State has the most outbound with 13, (Able, Arceneaux, Breed, Cloer, Copeland, Deng, Holloman, Kontuniemi, Langdon, Lubin, McNeil, Sagnie, Williams), UVA has the least with zero.
How are we doing on adding players?
The portal has been open 14 days and Coach Gainey has added three players. Neither Coach Keatts nor the other guy had added any true transfers in the first 14 days. (2025 Note: Breed & Copeland were brought with the coach, and Able was a high school player)
