Newcastle United hosts Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday in Matchday 3 of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
Matthias Jaissle’s side enters the match unbeaten in three competitive games, including a 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend after drawing 2-2 with Liverpool in its league opener.
Newcastle has four points from two Premier League matches but has faced the most shots (44) in the EPL to date. The Magpies are winless in their last eight league meetings with Bournemouth, including
defeats in the last two at St James’ Park, but the difference is that Eddie Howe is no longer around and the trend could easily change.
Dan Burn, William Osula, Joelinton and Tino Livramento remain unavailable through injury, but new signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo is expected to get his first minutes — although coming off the bench — while Anthony Elanga, Yoane Wissa and Harvey Barnes should start in the forward line.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, has one point after losing 2-1 to Manchester City and drawing 1-1 with Everton, with Marco Rose’s side conceding late goals in both matches.
Eli Junior Kroupi, Amine Adli, Veljko Milosavljevic and Julian Araujo remain sidelined for the Cherries.

On Fernandez-Pardo…
“We worked hard on the deal, finalised it in the last hours and we’re really pleased. For a young age, he is already showing a lot of strength on the pitch. His physical levels are really strong for our idea of how we want to play football.
“That speed up front can cause many problems, he is versatile, which gives us the freedom to adjust from match to match. This is something I like as a coach that we are flexible.
“He is fit and training with us. It has been a while since he played a full 90 minutes so it is also, for a young lad, important to adapt towards our intensity in training but also in the Premier League.
“We will have a close eye on him and be smart with the load management.”
On the summer transfer window…
“I am happy. A great job from Ross [Wilson] and his team. A clear idea with all of the signings, a young squad and signings with huge potential.
“That’s a brave way because it’s the way we want to go. We are aligned on everything. I am excited to work with the players.”
On Nick Woltemade, who joined Serie A side Juventus on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign…
“I really appreciate Nick as a player, for his quality on the pitch but I also appreciate him as a human being.
“We always have good conversations, really honest conversations and he has decided now to take another challenge. Hopefully, it goes well.
“I’m really optimistic that he will shine there, he will score a lot of goals there for sure. He’s still our player so, therefore, we will make sure we stay in close contact.
On Amar Dedić, with the Bosnian full-back providing three assists in his opening three games for United…
“Amar has been exceptional so far. I’m really pleased with how fast he has adapted to the league, team and the playing style.
“He knows how I want to play football from our time in Salzburg. Amazing start, hopefully he can continue in the same way.”
On Elanga and Wissa’s bright starts to the season…
“We are really pleased that they have shined in the beginning of the season already. In football, there are periods for players over a long career where things don’t go for them but they are having a good period now.
“They are working hard to get these rewards and we support them. Their game is on them, how much they believe in themselves and how much effort they put on the pitch. We are there to encourage and support them.”
