An entire evening of playoff baseball awaits you!
First up is the second game of the ALCS. Seattle could take a commanding 2-0 lead with a win here, and then head back home, where they could lock up a spot in the World Series by the weekend. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Toronto looked great in the ALDS and is entirely capable of bouncing back in Game 2 tonight.
The night cap is in Milwaukee, where the Brewers have the tall task of dethroning the defending world champions. The Brewers are coming
off of a nail-biting series win in the NLDS that saw them win every game at home (and lose both road matches). They would be fine with that trending continuing tonight. The Dodgers have become inevitable over the last 12 years, making the playoffs every seasons since 2013. This year’s squad does not feel as dominant as some past iterations, but they might have just been waiting until October to turn on the jets.
Seattle Mariners at Toronto Blue Jays , 5:03 pm, FOX/FS1
RHP Logan Gilbert (8 IP, 1.13 ERA this postseason) vs. RHP Trey Yesavage (5.1 IP, 0.00 ERA)
Seattle leads series, 1-0
The Mariners have put a lot on Gilbert’s shoulders already this postseason, and he has responded well. The righty allowed just one run across six innings in Game 3 of the ALDS, and then came back to deliver two shutout innings of relief in Game 5, which came just three days later. He will technically be pitching on just two days rest tonight with his relief appearance serving as his in-between start “bullpen.”
Yesavage entered the playoffs with 14 career big league innings under his belt. He debuted on September 15, and had a 3.21 ERA down the stretch. That was enough to John Schneider to hand him a start in the postseason, and boy did it pay off. The 22-year-old dominated the Yankees, striking out 11 over his 5.1 innings of work. His stuff is off the charts, and he seems poised to be an impact arms for years to come, but Schneider may not give the youngster a long leash in what feels like a must-win game.
Los Angeles Dodgers at. Milwaukee Brewers, 8:08 pm, TBS/HBO Max
LHP Blake Snell (13 IP, 1.38 ERA) vs. LHP Aaron Ashby (4.2 IP, 5.79 ERA)
Series tied at 0-0
Snell is not being paid for his regular season work. The Dodgers probably would have liked to get more than 61.1 innings from him this year, but it’s not like they needed him. The playoffs are what matters, and the southpaw has been great. He allowed just two runs over seven innings in the Wild Card round, and then went six shutout frames in the NLDS.
Ashby was announced as the Brewers starer just hours before first pitch. He’s an opener, and this is going to be a bullpen game for the hosts. Ashby has appeared in four games already this postseason, including Game 5 against the Cubs. That same game saw Trevor Megill, Jacob Misiorowski, Chad Patrick, and Abner Uribe make an appearance. You would imagine that many of those same names appear today, and they will pray that Freddy Peralta can deliver a nice start in Game 2. That’s the way it goes in the playoffs.
