It’s been an up-and-down season for the 2025 Michigan Wolverines. There have been lows, such as tough road losses to Oklahoma (24-13) and USC (31-13). There have also been highs as well, with Michigan having perhaps their most complete performance last week versus Maryland in a 45-20 win.
“Momentum is a real thing, right?”, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said this week.
Michigan will have to play their most complete game yet this Saturday against No. 1 Ohio State, and the good news for Michigan is they
could be peaking at the right time. Moore said that how Michigan played against Maryland gives the team “good momentum” heading into the OSU game.
Michigan didn’t punt last week and scored on seven of 10 possessions while converting 12-of-14 third down attempts. Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood played a turnover free game after throwing two interceptions the week prior. Underwood was 16-of-23 for 215 yard with two touchdowns last week. Underwood had completions to seven different receiving targets.
“Probably our most complete performance,” Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said of Michigan’s efforts last week.
Michigan’s offensive approach was quite balanced last week, throwing for 215 yards and rushing for 228. Having success through the air and on the ground against Ohio State are equally important.
“I think we’re really peaking at the right time,” Moore said. “I think the balance is what you wanted. We said that from the beginning of the year, you want balance between run and pass. You don’t want predictability. Predictability can expose you, and I think our guys have done a really good job of doing that. So being able to be a physical football team up front in the run game and then having to play actions and passes off of it, balance is the key to the game.”
Michigan has a lot on the line. With a win, there’s a strong chance that they make the College Football Playoff. It’s not just a rivalry game, it also determines whether Michigan makes the postseason.
“We always talk about, ‘they remember November.’ And to be able to play for that, play for a spot possibly in the playoff, and even in the Big Ten Championship. All those things are at hand,” Moore said. “I think our kids deserve to know that they’re in that position. We’ll talk about it. But at the end of the day, we still got to go prepare.”
Ohio State has had a phenomenal year, but the last team who beat them was Michigan, a program that’s done so four years in a row. Momentum is a real thing, and it’s on Michigan’s side until proven otherwise.
