If you were expecting points today in Florida State’s matchup vs. Kent State today, then through two quarters, you must be feeling pretty good.
FSU put up five touchdowns in the first quarter alone, with Micahi Danzy taking on the role of “video game number producer” occupied by Duce Robinson in the last game. The do-it-all athlete caught a 47-yard ball and a 65-yard one from Tommy Castellanos, then finally broke into the end zone on a 64-yard touchdown run.
Castellanos put up two rushing touchdowns of his own with Gavin Sawchuck also scoring on the ground.
While the Seminoles excelled on the offensive side of the ball early, Castellanos threw his first pick of the season on a promising drive, missing a lurking Kent State defender. The Florida State defense also had a major bust in the first quarter, giving up a 75-yard passing play on the Golden Flashes’ second drive of the game.
After picking off Castellanos and the subsequent 29-yard return, Kent State managed to put together its longest drive of the game — but it was cut short on a fourth-down attempt from the 25-yard line.
Florida State then began to piece together a promising drive, getting into the red zone before Castellanos limped off the field under his own power. Kevin Sperry replaced him for a single play before the game was delayed due to lightning in the area.
